There's some definite weirdness going on and I'm frustrated that I cannot pinpoint it. For instance...

If I plug something right into the modem, it'll pull an IP and access the Internet. If I plug the modem to the router, then devices connected to the router appear to work too... except in my last test, when only the device I'd connected earlier worked, and none of the other devices were able to pull IP, and that device was still pulling an IP was if it was connected directly to Comcast, which couldn't be possible as it was connected via a router. If I put the Nest between the modem and the router, the Nest won't work and the router won't work. I feel the modem is acting suspicious and I'm fine replacing it except the recommended model is identical to my current model so I have to just accept that maybe my model is somehow flawed (yes, I've tried different CAT5 cables just in case it's a bad cable). I also happen to have a *different* Nest device which isn't being any more agreeable than the first. The biggest problem here is how difficult it is to manage the Nest since you have to do everything through a very dumb app.
