I think if it were staged, it would've gone longer somehow.
Edited to add: My theory is that if you're the sort of person who would connive to have a plant & actually went through with it, you're probably the kind of person who likes to hear yourself talk & would focus on the plant to show how much better than them you are. You wouldn't just slap them down and move on. You'd linger; you'd baste in your own genius.
So whether it's a plant depends, IMHO, on whether there was any basting in the remainder of the speech.
