one would hope. devil's advocate in me still thinks US automakers (and Germany/Japan to lesser extent) just don't want to go EV except at gunpoint

it's been the same "consumers don't want it so we can't make money building them" song and dance since the EV1. which is just a variation on the story they kept telling themselves after the oil shocks of 1973 and 1979 when they didn't have any models to compete with Japanese models for fuel efficiency. at some point i've just come to take them at their word that they really believe it, on a philosophical level
