The nerdiest complaint about the House of the Dragons premiere you will ever read. From a giant nerd named crash davis (slight spoilers )

What really bugged me is that is set only 172 years before the birth of Danerys Targaryen, The reason is because of the dragons.
At the beginning of HotD, we see Princess Rhaenyra on a full sized dragon. We're told that House Targaryen has ten of them.
There was a big long soliloquy in GoT about the dragons. How they were the source of the Targaryen power and then through inbreeding they started getting smaller and smaller until they were not very large at all and then they died out.
I am influence by the D&D conception of dragons, which their size is based upon their ages, and in D&D dragons can live to a ripe old age.
So while I am not an expert on inbreeding, nor do I know if GRRM addressed how old dragons can get on Westeros, it seems to me that 172 years is not a long enough time for them to devolve to the state they were described in in GoT.
Just my gripe
