Currently we are afraid to vote for 3rd parties because that always gives advantage to the wrong other party ie Nader Gore Bush...

So a *thoughtful* voter could vote for Nader as 1st choice and Gore 2nd as the preferred fallback.
Reality is few voters are so discriminating, a huge portion can't figure out who they want first, will do dumb stuff like vote donny 1 2 and 3
Or worse, vote randomly, especially on the down ballot offices.
My county tried it once, the normal candidates lost to the radical idiot who kept getting arrested at council meetings because he kept talking about his ONE issue no matter what. His job was a flower seller out of buckets downtown.
So then the county assessor treasurer is a nut case who cost us millions in law suits for sexual harassment and wrongful termination and other civil service violation
