I applied for both TSA Precheck and Global Entry because the latter would take so long to complete.

I got TSA Precheck almost immediately and used it within days of having received it. I'm still waiting for my Global Entry appointment but the upshot is that I'm going through customs before my appointment date, and they have the ability to interview "on entry" so I'll do that, then I can cancel my appointment.
