In response to "he's looking all over. Any tips for finding those positions? Just regular job boards or something else? -- nm" by oblique

our firm does economic consulting in litigation and health care so data science is pretty much our bread and butter

but we're just one semi-large player in the field, so i'd say look at economic consulting firms in general (Chicago should be lousy with their offices)

the only caveat from my observation here is there is kind of a traditional hiring track akin to law school students doing the summer associateship at a big firm that leads to an offer out of school. so he would be on a non-traditional hiring track at this point, for better or worse. also, the analyst position at these firms is typically 3-5 years and then out to an MBA or Ph.D. so if he's looking for something more permanent, it might not be the ideal fit. that said, the majority of analysts at our firm do get into top 10 business schools when they exit and can sort of write their own tickets after that for whatever they want to do long term

if Alex gets truly desperate, let me know. right now we have this year's incoming class of new hires starting post-Labor Day. but there is also a lot of turnover as previous cohorts age out so I can reach out to people i know in our Chicago office later in the year to see how full up they might be
