Except that there is bias in treating sides as equivalent when the sides are not at all equivalent.

One side is fighting *for* the right to exist and the other side is fighting to marginalize.
Those are not equivalent positions that should be debated.
There is a side that fights to make government responsive and effective and a side that argues that government is broken and then sets out to break it even further.
You don't fix problems through debate when one side has no desire to see the problems fixed and, in fact, is perfectly happy with the problems getting worse because it serves their purposes.
You cannot have genuine debate when one side doesn't enter the debate in good faith.
