The Today Show ran a piece on releasing baby sea turtles. Some had satellite trackers attached which were powered by tiny solar panels.

They recharge and transmit when the turtle is on the surface or shore and will fall off after about two months.
They also talked about the fact that hatchling gender is determined by the temperature of the nest and warming temperatures mean most hatchlings right now are female which could lead to a population crash.
