I think it's a mistake to focus solely on it as a healthcare decision. It's very often a financial decision. It's just a matter of autonomy, really.

Conservatives, simply put, don't want everybody to have full autonomy. And I think that's fear more than lack of trust, unless you mean they don't trust other people's priorities to align with their own.
