Serious answer: spot gps. They’re cheap and you can program them to send messages. Like turn it on, hit a button, and ty gets a “we’re ok” message.

Or hit another button and ty gets a “we need help” message. And it’s a gps so both have fairly precise locations attached, and doesn’t rely on mobile signal.
