EV: Been reading on reddit/forums about Niro/Kona EV gear reducer oil being black after a very small number of miles (black gear oil = contaminant) -- (edited)

and these guys have been tracking this for a few years now with the older models and findings have been pretty consistent. They've recommended most users change their gear reducer oil early in the life of the car (I'm at 10k miles). I think I mentioned this a little while back. Took the car in to local mechanic on Friday and supplied the gear oil myself. He doesn't work on EVs but when I explained he was like "yeah, I can do that"

Oil was black as the forum guys indicated it would be. Hopefully this little bit of preventative maintenance will avoid potentially future issues
Also had the mechanic install a new drain plug with a magnet on the tip that reportedly will help catch future metal contaminants (which is what is suspected is happening based on oil analysis some of the forum guys did)
