If you like fries and cheese together then you should like them in a tortilla too. It's weird to me to complain about things that go together being on a tortilla instead of separate on a plate. (also yes, this seems like classic stadium food)

On the pronunciation front, I think it's also that English recognizes just about every letter combination, and is also not consistent about its vowel combinations having the same sounds. But it isn't as if British English doesn't have the "ah" sound, which is what makes that grate.
