That sounds scary and every situation is, of course, very different.
But i have had had two surgeries to remove ovarian cysts. The first was the size of a *grapefruit* and I was only 21. In both cases, my ovaries were fine afterwards.
So, while obviously they are concerned and it sounds like a real possibility, don't ASSUME she will lose her ovary.
I feel for them both though, it's a lot to come to grips with.
