Studios have been abandoning movies they know will bomb long before we were born. Disney certainly is putting a small amount of films straight to Disney+ (Pinocchio, Hocus Pocus 2, lesser Pixar), but that's not abandoning theaters. Look at the release schedule for the next few years. The majority of large films are under the Disney umbrella.
