I was just thinking how I couldn't understand how even Republicans could vote for Walker, so I tried to turn the question on myself.

I think what you said about answering in the abstract is correct. I think it would depend on the opposing candidate. If I felt that they were competent and not too extreme I would likely vote for them. Otherwise I would probably go with the incompetent member of my party and assume that someone competent from my party in the Senate would just tell them what to do.
