In response to "When I'm choosing a candidate, I value their individual merit more than the letter behind their name. -- nm" by Strongbad

Historically I'm with you. I have split tickets in the past. We're not in a normal world right now.

I truly don't mean to paint with a broad brush right now. I have plenty of family and friends that are traditional, thoughtful, republican or republican-leaning voters and I have respect for their views. But the PARTY isn't that anymore. The party has shown that it can't be trusted and is a danger. Many of them have chosen to leave the party though they continue to hold their views because of the broader issues and I truly feel for them not feeling like they have someone they can trust to represent them. I (and they) truly believe the only way to get back a party that represents you is by killing the party that exists now (and that means they have to lose a lot so they change direction).
