So for the past three weeks, I've gone to one or two events a week, just to be around the public. This week the mayor had his assistant email all city employees about the County Domestic Violence Council's fundraising dinner and silent auction.
Since I couldn't find any free events locally this week, I bought a dinner ticket. I figure I will show up early and place bids on a few of the items, enough to show that I would have donated some decent money but low enough that I will get outbid on them.
I will not put anything down on the dog because I don't want to end up with him in some freak no bidding circumstance.

Bid on dinners and wine sets, those tend to get bid up over value. But special Chef's dinners can be awesome Bourdain experience -- nm

We went to one once for Feed My Starving Children. It was a ton of fun. I bought raffle tickets instead of bidding on things. Ended up winning Cubs

The thing I just linked includes a Mark Twain that combining a man with a cat would improve the man but lessen the cat.

I agree that you should make sure to go out a couple times per week, but I still think you should get lots of cats. -- nm

We went to an event a few months ago, and I was the first bid for a Geena Davis autographed baseball, figuring I'd get outbid.

They are auctioning a dog? That seems problematic... (But glad you are going out!) -- nm
