It's like a combination of concern-trolling and trolling about hand-wringing. To what end?

Is he choosing an obtuse way of stating that, for all the online bluster, the polls are more dire than ever & people are operating in denial of that?
Is he poking fun at people who take things more seriously than the rest of the electorate?
Is he using the behaviour to vent frustrations from what he sees going on in his life every day?
Or some combination of all of these suppositions?
