In response to "I think I'm learning from Twitter that you're not "allowed" to leave your kids in the car anymore while running into a store for a quick errand? -- nm" by ty97

I was talking to an old grade school friend about our walk to and from the school, and he said "That's so far, I would never let my daughter." -- (edited)

It was 0.6 miles. Granted, we had to cross a busy road with no lights or guard, and the rest of the route didn't have any sidewalks, but it was fairly quiet residential.

Plus, we're just as lucky we didn't ride our bikes downhill into traffic or get tetanus from the collapsed house in the woods or drown in the river we played at until dinner time after school.
