Laptop quandary - should we buy Mac a laptop on Black Friday? Here's the situation

-currently a jr. in high school
-has a school issued laptop (which she'll need to return to the school in June). Doesn't currently have a personal laptop
-next summer (2024), she's looking to take a 5-week college class for which she'll need a laptop (art/animation stuff).
-she'll enter college the fall of 2025

If we buy a laptop now, it won't get much use for 6 months.
By the time she goes away to college, the laptop would be almost 2 years old already.

Can't figure out how to bridge the time spans.
Advice?

if the kid is getting into art and potentially animation, then an iPad or similar maybe a better option if they dont have touch screen laptops - tRuMaN Nov 22, 10:42

We bought both our kids laptops heading into their senior years of HS. EDIT: My son's lasted fine. My daughter is now sophomore and still going strong -- (edited) - oblique Nov 22, 10:30
