Something similar has been used before here in the 1980s or 1990s, for a few seasons of our state championship.

iirc, the changes didn't have a meaningful impact.
There's been experimentation, a lot of it.
We have a very famous cup here, in January, with teams from all over the country. Under-18. Lots of players that moved on to be big have their first who here. They often try some tweaks to rules. It is hard to gauge properly because the culture of how things generally are is hard-wired, but there's never been a change of rules that proved that it changed the scoring significantly.
Maybe one exception, when they changed it from 2-point victory to 3-point victory about 20-ish years ago, as it rewards risk-taking. But that's almost in the meta-game and not in the game itself.
