TIL: polio was always around, but not so wide spread until we started sanitizing post 1918 pandemic, suddenly kids weren't getting exposed to as much+

environmental filth, germs and virus.

around 1900 we started building all tile bathrooms following the black plague outbreak then.

that's why we have bathtubs flush with the wall instead of those big things in the middle of a wood room like before. it made it much easier to clean.

mothers would pass some immunity to kids who would get exposed to all kinds of dirt, remember we didn't diaper kids then, just let them poo in the yard.

but with the wave of sanitation kids weren't as exposed to all the bugs so when polio drifted by they had lost their previous immunities

suddenly in the 30s polio was taking kids by the hundreds.

kinda like how we're experiencing 3 kinds of respitory infections going around, we apparently lost some immunity from lack of exposure.
