If Dems run a candidate, then the Dem vote is weakened by her run as an Ind, leading to a GOP pick up of the seat

At least, that's the prevailing theory.
She isn't as popular as she thinks, and might take votes from both parties, but probably more from the Dem side.
Dems either call her bluff, risking losing the seat, or let her run without putting up a Dem challenger, also risking losing the seat.
