Last time I rented a car, it was because my business trip was in a tiny town south of Kitchener. 140km from the airport.

I don't think a Leaf could have handled that distance in a single shot. But, I don't think I had a non-ICE option anyway. I rented a purple jeep.
All of my recent trips to california were without a rental, since work was walking distance from the hotel via Stevens Creek Trail (quite a nice trail, IMO).
I guess my point is: if my trip is "in a city", I don't need a rental. If my trip has a component that is between two cities, it so far hasn't been an option to go electric.
My last trip was to Portland Oregon. I drove my own ICE car. And I mostly rode transit within the city, or was graciously chauffeured by a coworker in their personal Model X.
I'm still curious if that was more or less emissive than flying a jet there.
