At this point it might not impact the infection rate if they have the newer variants (the vaccines don't seem to affect infection rates much, just

severity/outcomes). So it might help the total numbers, but I think they have an older population that is probably still more at risk, and the sheer number of people in China probably means overrun hospitals. They should probably have phased in lifting restrictions over time but because they waited so long and had zero tolerance there is just no natural protection in the population at all. So this kind of like New York at the beginning of the pandemic on a bigger scale.
