But it was used as justification to intervene in other countries - just in the Americas. Mexico, Haiti, Cuba, etc

It seems not that big a shift from the Monroe doctrine - only instead of getting involved because some Latin American government didn’t allow a US company to grow bananas, it was because some general led a coup (and then refused banana growing rights)
