I know they're a large land mass, but I just assumed that they had a decently-sized Naval armada as well (with subs and ships and, well, air craft carriers).

Oh definitely. Aircraft carriers, FWIW, are rare outside the US Navy. *GOOD* ones are even rarer. 26 globally. 11 are USN.

There just aren't a ton of aircraft carriers anywhere - the US only has around 10. Most of the Russian navy is made up of much smaller ships -- nm
