Yup. I'm sure people call someone their kids "godparent", and it means something else.

From the church perspective, that's what it means for most religions.
That's why I hesitated when my brother asked me to be his son's godparent. I was like, "I'm honored, but I don't believe in God. Shouldn't someone else do it?"
