Mop, airlines don't have incentive to run sales for far in advance. They can discount fares as it gets closer (if needed) to fill the planes.

Also, they have very little incentive to discount August (the height of summer travel season!).
The discounts tend to focus on the lower seasons:
- January/February (after Christmas/New Year's travel subsides but before spring break travel starts)
- Perhaps mid April to mid May (spring break basically over, Memorial Day hasn't arrived yet and the south isn't out of school yet)
- September/October - after Labor day, kids back in school, nice summer weather ending in several places. These deals may run into the first part of November as well.
- The first couple of weeks of December. Thanksgiving travel has ended, Christmas travel has not started yet.
This isn't exact, and some holiday weekends (MLK day, Presidents Day, Easter, etc) can cause prices to rise, but those tend to be the slower times for travel so deals can sometimes be easier to find.
It doesn't mean you won't find good prices at other times, but don't hold out hope for a bargain basement sale for summer travel.
