Oliver even did an episode about it), but also, when Fox does that they change national conversation about it. Reputable news sites start asking about it and reporting on the increases in crime. And there really are meaningful increases everywhere (interestingly, higher in red states and cities than blue ones, but those are lower population areas, so it sticks with the big cities). It's just the national discussion point now with too few instances of really digging into the stats. Undeniably, crime is up. Why is still an open issue. But how it compares to the "good old days" is very distorted.
