don't need to be married (my Godparents weren't and neither were my sister's), but they should be
practicing and in good standing with the church. Which means for us Connor's Godparents are going to be my sister and my dad, as they are the only practicing Catholics we know, and feel comfortable with being Connor's Godparents.
This of course did not go over well with Ashlee's family, her g-ma is Methodist, and the rest of her family really don't subscribe to a particular denomination, or even attend church. Her g-ma was really upset and we got into a bit of an argument over it; she wanted to be his Godmother. She didn't see a problem with not being able to help teach and guide him in the Catholic faith (especially considering she doesn't always have nice things to say about "those Catholics"), which we'd decided to raise him in. Alternatively, she wanted Ashlee's sister, who never even goes to church to be the Godmother.
Of course this is all part of the larger issue that her family has with the fact that she chose to become Catholic in the first place (her g-ma's issue) or that she chose to find God and religion in the first place (her moms' issue).
