It all boils down to this.

Powell is trying to get the 53% of inflation that's profit taking down, but doesn't have any leverage if the company are getting the profits from inflation *and* their stock prices are riding high.

So, he wants stock prices to be low until inflation gets back under control. The other option they have is take the Fed's money out of the stock market. I'm not sure how invested they are currently...
