It's been a while since it was true here. For a long time, Uber was always cheaper.

As Uber was trying to build their brand and get market share, they were intentionally loss-making it seemed
Not anymore, and not for a while now. I'm not going to say it's always more expensive than a cab, but definitely sometimes it is. It's rarely cheaper than a cab anymore.
