Chargers have two styles of plugs. Level 2 uses the top (round) part of the plug while level 3 adds an oval shaped connector below the level 2 -- (edited)

So while they are compatible (a car with level 3 will take level 2 and level 3). Most commonly the level 2 is known as J1772 and level 3 is "CCS"
