After over 2 years of practicing, my son got his license! -- (edited)

First time taking the test! He's 20 now.

It was a long road to here. He's autistic and has a processing delay. He didn't want to start until he was 18. We had an incident on his first time on a highway that terrified us all. He also hit a curb because he took a turn too hard.

Both of those things caused him and us to think about whether or not he should drive. In the end, we decided needed to get the license. Doesn't mean he has to drive alone, but he needed the accomplishment.

I had to learn how to specifically tell him how to do things. Instead of "merge left", I needed to say, "There are 3 lanes. Merge to the middle lane which is left of you now." There were so many things that my daughter just got naturally that I had painstakingly teach him but he got everything eventually.

He's mainly just going to drive to work (He has a job at Safeway!), and to school. This is a small thing for most people, but huge for him. He just wants to be like everyone else, and this is him getting one step closer to it.
