The term "Long Tail" was originated in an article from Chris Anderson at Wired in 2004. I would have assumed it was much older than that.

I remember this being applied to Amazon shopping and thinking "Of course! Someone's finally put a term to what this is!"

vaguely recall hearing about it when i was just starting writing (2006/07) and especially around the strike in the context of gaining union coverage
