SPOTIFY CEO DANIEL EK has announced that the company is cutting 500 staffers, approximately 6% of the company's workforce, and that Chief Content & Advertising Business Officer DAWN OSTROFF is leaving the company.
OSTROFF, the former President of THE CW and UPN, Head of CONDE NAST ENTERTAINMENT, and EVP at LIFETIME, will take on a senior advisor role with the company during a transitional period; she joined SPOTIFY in 2018.
Other changes to the reorganizing company are Chief Freemium Business Officer ALEX NORSTRÖM, and Chief Research & Development Officer GUSTAV SÖDERSTRÖM adding responsibilities and moving into co-President roles.
EK said, "As you are well aware, over the last few months we’ve made a considerable effort to rein-in costs, but it simply hasn’t been enough. So while it is clear this path is the right one for SPOTIFY, it doesn’t make it any easier -- especially as we think about the many contributions these colleagues have made.... I take full accountability for the moves that got us here today."
