I think a hidden element to this issue is that people are doing a lot of unnecessary reading between the lines

Song of the South deals in racist stereotypes.
The ride is based on the movie.
I enjoyed the ride.
So then you're calling me a racist?
That breaks apart on the last statement. No, Disney just doesn't want to deal with this controversy anymore.

As an aside, I was kinda surprised to learn it only opened in 1992. Would have thought it was closer to an original attraction kinda thing.
