I know when I was in Boston, there was a huge to do with campus security about jaywalking in front of our dorm,

so someone looked up what the actual statute was...
and looked....and looked...
eventually found an old law on the books that provided for a $1 fine on the first offense, $2 for the second, and $3 thereafter.
