If you hear a ding (like the paging sound for the in-flight phone) in the middle of the flight at cruise altitude... -- (edited)

...see if you can look toward the front of the plane.
You'll likely see at least two flight attendants up there. They'll roll out a cart to block the aisle between first class and the cockpit. Then a pilot will come out and a flight attendant will go into the cockpit.
Then the other pilot will probably come out as the first pilot goes back in. When that pilot goes back in, the flight attendant will come out and then they will put the cart back in storage.
