That's an interesting question in and of itself, but I think Edwards was prone to implode.

If Obama is what we think he is, democrats should hold the White House for at least 8 if not 12+ years. That neutralizes the short term loss of the Supreme Court issues. We just need to find our own Souters who can go 50 years and are rabidly partisan.
