Why is it so hard to say, "We want the word too?"

Again, I know the debate on the rights extensions is nowhere near as universal as it was up here during our debate, so we might be stuck arguing apples and oranges to a certain extent, but if the government was to say, "Yes, we'll grant you everything but the word," you would still view that as a subclass instead of just a different class?
That sounds a lot to me like, "We want the word."
Which is just what many of those opposing it are saying.
