Since its not a virus seen previously, then they would be looking at one they found in the wild, so it was in the wild already...

seems like every ten years or so there's a serious corona virus going around, N1H1, MERS.
We knew one was inevitable, we had developed plans, we had shared labs with china....till some dick head got elected and trashed it, ignored it.
I say it wasn't one our scientists had seen previously because I would assume they compared DNA with previous viruses... they dug up ...exumed... bodies from the 1918 pandemic that were buried in Alaska? to get samples of that virus.
Many countries have said it wasn't a genetically altered virus and what would be the point of making a virus that would kill you as well as the enemy.
So I would assume the lab would be looking at virus found in the environment....
