motels are disappearing, first the run down road side places that turned into hooker/druggie joints, now most chains are gone from tacoma

there's a street along side I5 that had a dozen, hell we stayed in one when we first moved here. most are gone,
the city of tacoma spent a couple million to rent one during the pandemic for those who had to quaranteen but was rarely used, costing some 50k per tenant.
years ago the various cop agencies closed down the run down mom and pop motels that had a dozen rooms, usually full of meth dealers, hookers and a few residents without credit rating or rent deposit. they sent building inspectors to cite them for anything and red tag them and most got demolished.
just a block or so away the Candlewood Suites, which opened a few years ago, I thought it was supposed to be nicer... is being turned into a homeless rehab facility.
seems 2/3rds of the traditional travelers motels are being sold, turned into apartments, torn down for condos.
airbnb must have taken over
