One possible consequence of the RSN collapse is that there’ll be further fracturing of the sports landscape (I lamented recently that the days of flipping channels and stumbling across a random professional sports game may be gone). What we’re seeing is uber-niche streaming services like the NESN (Red Sox and Bruins) streaming service and the MSG (Knicks, Rangers, Islanders, Devils, Sabres) streaming service, for $30 each. At $30/month, signing up to an “all access” plan for NBA or MLB or NHL that costs less than $30/month can’t possibly give you your local games or you’d just sign up for the all access plan instead.
