Interesting. Contractual holds is one of the big issues for the WGA.

Presumably the trades have historically read "been released from their contract" as an indication that a project was canceled. But in this new era of 8 episode seasons, you can't lock someone up for a year. This seems to be similar to the UK TV production/release plan (i.e. we're getting a new season of The Night Manager years after the last season). The trades will have to find a new indicator as to what is/isn't canceled. Especially when series get rebooted years after they were "canceled".
