It is nowhere near as busy on 42nd and 12th today. -- (edited)

The piers aren't used like they used to be and I'm guessing there was manufacturing of some kind there at this time. Today there's not a lot there for a crowd like that to be walking around. The Consulate General for China has their building on that corner. It's nowhere near any other country as they're mostly on the east side of Manhattan closer to the UN. China's on the far west side for some reason.
