Top Chef Fans: ‘Restaurants at the End of the World’ hosted by Kristen Kish starts Tuesday on NatGeo

‘Restaurants at the End of the World’

When to watch: Tuesday at 10 p.m., on National Geographic.

Here in New York City, trying to book a table at even a mildly buzzy spot can feel like an overwhelming effort. And yet, claiming a seat at the restaurants in this four-part National Geographic series requires even more determination than constantly hitting refresh on Resy. Hosted by the debonair “Top Chef” winner Kristen Kish, each episode centers on an eatery so far-flung that reaching it typically requires a hike or a boat ride. The beaten path? You have to boulder up to it.

Kish, always ready with a respectful question and a cleaver, tastes and forages her way through the remote locales: Boquete, Panama; Svalbard, Norway; North Haven island, Maine; and Paraty, Brazil. After helping to harvest, net and pluck the necessary ingredients, she assists the local chef de cuisine in preparing an elaborate meal. There are occasional moments of mild tension, as when Kish frets over the wisdom of a vegan ceviche or a kimchi-and-passion-fruit sorbet. (Those flavors, will they work? Yup.) But the series is generally as soothing as it is wildly scenic.
