We've been expecting this news. Weirdly, folks started noticing that Darcelle had quietly pulled back from any public appearances around the time that news broke about Pres. Carter entering hospice.
The news wasn't a shock, but the loss of someone so integral to the entire Portland community -- not just the queer/Alphabet Mafia/LGBTQUIA+ community, but all of Portland -- is just depressing. Darcelle was an institution. Not just the club, but her entire presence.
